Flight Officer Biggs Darklighter and Cadet Derek "Hobbie" Klivian
walked down the hall of the Pocket Carrier Rand Ecliptic. They were
reporting to the briefing room for a mission briefing on a raid on a rebel
shipyard. "So Hobbie. You bet the rebs will run as soon as we show up?"
"I told you Biggs. The rebels are cowards and butchers. They cut down TIE's
like mad dogs. And yes I do bet they will cut and run. Even thought they
are butchers, they pick on pathetic TIE's and not Interceptors or Gunboats.
Heck, they haven't even taken one capitol ship yet in
this war I've heard." "Well...yeah. I guess so." They reached the
briefing room, and found it crowded with the other ten pilots of their
squadron. The XO cleared his throat and said, "Your late. the briefing
is scheduled for 1700 hours." "Uh...sir. Our schedule said it was scheduled
for 1730 hours." "Thats enough Mr. Klivian. Your already in trouble enough
already." Hobbie gulped and sat down next to Biggs who was already seated.
"Now
we're going to hit the Alcoz system..."
Hours later, Biggs and Hobbie were strafing a rebel bulk
freighter. "This is black eight, black eight, I've got
a bandit on my tail!" "Where is he...got 'em!" The comm-chatter
wen't on and on, and the occasional shout of 'sithspawn' would come through
the speakers. Suddenly, they heard the screams of innocent people as a
shuttle was obliterated. Even that made Hobbie wince. Then a voice rang
above the comm-chatter anouncing the surrender of the rebel forces.
As the prisoners marched by, Hobbie and Biggs both felt saddened. They realized that the rumor that the rebels were butcherers was a rumor. The rebels were fighting for their freedom, nothing else. Hobbie had watched as the Imperial fighters had straifed civilian shuttles, claiming that they were "Rebel Collaboraters". That night, as Hobbie and Biggs were sitting in the pilots lounge, the thoughts, "The Empire has shattered my honor. All I have left is shards." And above those thoughts, two words rose to the top of their heads: Mutiny, and defection.
